Corey Harper’s musical journey has been self-described as a modern take on the music that surrounded him a young age. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Harper was first introduced to the guitar by his uncle and father when they spotted his obsession with the instrument at two years old. The constant echoes of Fleetwood Mac and Jackson Browne were the sounds that inspired the now Pacific Northwest based singer songwriters’ style that bridges the gap between modern pop hooks and timeless story telling.Harper was studying music and literature in Eugene, Oregon where he would play covers and original songs around town and in dorm room study halls gaining a following of students on campus and fellow coworkers. He shared his songs through the campus’ radio station that supported local artists and began gaining traction on his YouTube and SoundCloud page a friend set up for him. After numerous amounts of frequent absences and failing classes, Harper dropped out of school and moved to Venice, CA where he co-founded “Winston House” with his childhood friend Corey McGuire. Their apartment loft turned music venue brought back an “Echo in the Canyon” amalgamation of modern artists and creatives that flocked to hear live music on the west side of Los Angeles which became the cutting floor for the stripped live acoustic sound Harper’s music evokes. In the early days of his musical journey, Harper befriended his long-time inspiration Justin Bieber and went to open for him on the Pacific Northwest dates of the Purpose Tour, gaining thousands of fans almost instantly. He shortly after released his debut EP “On the Run” which amassed millions of listeners within months. The EP allowed Harper to step into the conversation of other Americana/Folk artists and support the likes of close friend and collaborator Noah Kahan on multiple tours while writing and performing together frequently early on in both of their careers.Harper’s constant (and as he describes it)” annoyingly accidental” blending of genre’s he’s inspired by has made him a staple touring support act for larger audiences like Niall Horan and Noah Kahan, to Cian Ducrot and Dylan Gossett and many other acclaimed artists. With multiple US and UK/EU headline tours of his own and a full-length studio album under his belt, Harper represents a rising artist with a dedication to storytelling and self-reflection through emotionally impactful lyrics about his life and the way he sees the world. His sound resembles the life of a modern artist caught between the past and future while at the same time being completely unapologetically original. With a veteran Esque level of experience in the music scene, it’s safe to say his story is nowhere near finished while many could argue that it’s hardly even gotten started.
